Sunshine Dog

I can't beleive it's been so long since I last posted - must be  spending too much time outside in the sunny weather!. But it reminded me of a dog that we met in the Bahamas a few years back. He was lucky enough to belong to a sport fisher Captain who took him out and about on the boat. He certainly looked the part in his custom made sunglasses. Lil' Foot was certainly a lucky dog.

Bespoke Dog Biscuits

My parents both have a soft spot for all animals - particularly my Father who used to make dog food sandwiches for the vixen who visited their garden. He said they  made it easier for her to carry food back to her cubs!  So when we got Mortimer we weren't surprised when he produced a jar of home made biscuits for him. The biscuits are long gone but we kept the jar topped up with ordinary dog biscuits.

Version One

When we visited them last week Dad disappeared with Mortimer into the kitchen and they both came out grinning. He had been working on version two of the jar & biscuits. New jar, new label and now dog-shaped biscuits!  Can't wait for Morti's birthday!

Turf & Surf Saturday

Freedom!
Usually Mortimer's first walk of the day is along the beach where he can tear along and play with the big dogs. This Saturday high tide was in the morning, cutting down the beach area  and more people about. So we decided to take him somewhere new. The owner of Henry the Red Setter had recommended the old coach road and with only vaguely remembered directions we set off. We parked near Berwick church and saw some people with a map and followed them! Fortunately we soon picked up footpath markers and walked to Alciston church before looping back. It was glorious. Mortimer had his first encounters with cows & a sheep and was quite perplexed by both. He loved running through the long cool grass.

The sheep was so not bothered!

By evening the tide was out and so he enjoyed his usual run in the shallows. A turf & surf day!

That cow may be bigger but it can't do this!

Not Again!

Moi?

Now at first we thought that Mortimer was scoofing the kitchen work surface for food - apparently it's a labrador thing (maybe we should be grateful that he is only part labrador!) And you would have thought that after the Advocate episode he would be a little more cautious. Oh no!

Up until Thursday morning we had replaced two kitchen sponges, retrieved two knives and replaced the plunger on a cafetiere, fortunately on this one the glass was in the dishwasher. Thursday lunchtime three-quarters of a loaf of bread vanished - all bar a crust. And then Thursday evening's really sneaky stunt. The Co-Owner and I were in the kitchen preparing supper, both heads down at our tasks. I went across to put my veggie burger in the oven and it wasn't where I thought I'd left it. Puzzled I checked the fridge, I've had a bad week and it wouldn't have surprised me if I hadn't actually got it out. But it wasn't there. Next stop the sitting room to find Mortimer licking his lips! He'd taken it literally from under our noses. So anyone with any ideas to stop this habit?  At the moment I'm considering leaving a slice of bread liberally smeared with Colmans Extra Strong mustard out!
