A dog & his nose

Now Mortimer, like many dogs, is blessed with an impressive nose.

Perfectly formed
The windows in our house are quite low giving Mortimer ample opportunity to gaze out on the world, mainly in the hope of seeing rabbits in the field opposite. So when I saw this image I decided it was made for him.

How true

Next stop Tate Modern.

P.S. I don't know the origins of the photograph but will happily credit if any one knows.

Winter apples

Some of the apples didn't get picked this year, I've no idea why. Us villagers are allowed to help ourselves once the official harvest is over but it looked like this year we got apple overload!
As they've stayed on the trees their colour has intensified and with the low winter sun they positively glow.

Winter colour
The starlings however are benefitting from this largesse, huge numbers of them swirl out of the trees when we walk past and sit on the overhead cables waiting for us to leave.

Seaside treat

My parents, who stayed with us over Christmas, decided it would be a good idea to visit the beach to blow the cobwebs away. It only takes 45 minutes to the nearest seaside town but, worried about the availability of refreshments on Boxing Day, they packed a flask, sandwiches and a few mince pies.

Now Mortimer, who spent his first few months with us living on the coast, gets ecstatic when he sees the sea, even if it is freezing.

It's the sea - let me at it

Promise I won't run off
He is so gullible.....
Now as you might have gathered from the photographs it was very cold with a north westerly wind blowing, so sandwiches on the beach were out. But for Mortimer the alternative, picnic in the car, was a new and very pleasurable experience.

I'm sure that ham sandwich could get a bit nearer

He can't wait to do that again.
